has legs? Huh?
What is this?
Production (2.0)
Come again?
We help you to pull things together. From scratch to the success it deserves or even just finding your finished article the right audience and helping to give it a nudge in the right direction.
That still doesn’t answer my question. What do you actually do?
Well. Say you’ve got a book you want to write, or an art project you’re working on or a TV show you want to make or a gig you’d like to put on or a website you’d like to set up or even just the inkling of an idea… If you’d like, we’ll talk you through where you want it to go and how you see it developing. Then together we can link up your idea with the right people, the right resources and the right audience to have it succeed.
Who are you then?
We’ve a small but dedicated team of people with expertise in…
CSS & (X)/HTML and Javascript
Editing
Design (web & print)
TV & Film production
Research
Theatre
Animation
Event Management
Marketing
Publishing (and e-publishing)
Web content production & distribution
Music
Social Media
Please see our portfolio for a better idea of what we help happen. We cant take all the credit but some of them were even our ideas.
But I’ve got a mate down the pub who can do that?
Well, so have we, but we’ve also got some rather brilliant ‘mates’ who are at the very top of their field in Venture Capital, TV production, Publishing, Web Startups, Political Campaigns, Event Management, Arts Funding, Media, Music, Theatre and Film. These lovely and really rather clever people make up our Creative Advisory Board and help to inform and advise on all aspects of production from the very beginnings of an idea through to the make up of the team that will work with you on your project and even on to advice on the next project you might get going on.
Fine. But what makes you different from all the other charlatans out there?
We think we’ve got the right approach towards production of goods and the treatment of creators in today’s climate. For instance, we like to use Creative Commons licencing for everything we help produce. We think that this helps both the artist and the consumer get a better deal from content. For further details please see our statement of ethics.
Stuff that wouldn’t get made otherwise via more traditional publishing or production channels can get made with us. Because almost all of our team are freelance the costs associated with your project only go to cover the work that’s been done on your project, not unnecessary middlemen and other flunkies.
This does mean we are slightly smaller scale, but we always make sure that we place a larger emphasis on the artist or creator, and it definitely doesn’t mean you’ll get a worse deal.
We don’t generally offer advances up front but you will get a larger share of the profits from your work. You will have control over the direction that your project takes at every stage and we will always respect your rights as the creator of your content.
What’s the catch?
Hmmm. That’s a tough one. But it goes like this. We do (generally) charge for what we do, but we will never place the creator or artist in debt to us through pre-production advances or any other fenagling scheme. Having said that, we also won’t take any money from you up front either, and we do absorb the risks involved with the costs of production although you may have to struggle through with your boring office job (or similar) until we can get it out there and start making you some money.
We appreciate that what you do, what you’ve done and what you can do is very difficult to place a value on. So with that in mind, we will say this:
As an artist or creator, you will always get a larger share of the net profit than we do.
So, if you were to write a book that costs us about £3 to produce and it sells at around £12 then you’ll get about £5 and we’ll get about £4. We intend to recognise the rights of the maker to not just own their work but also to fully recognise their inalienable rights to their profits.
